Þórunn Elfa is from Reykjavik, but she spent the latter part of her childhood growing up in Öxarfjörður. She spent her youth studying in Norway, later in Sweden.
Þórunn Elfa began writing at a young age. She focused her academic education purposefully on "learning to do", and her writings bear this mark. She has studied all branches of literature, writing novels, short stories, children's stories, travelogues, memoirs and essays on a variety of subjects. Last year, her poetry book Elfarniður was published, which immediately gained a special place among poetry books. Þórunn Elfa's poetic styles, which are exclusively in free form, are glitaðir rhymes, she often writes traditionally, but the renewal of poetry seems to be more appealing to her. (Cover text).
