Jón H. Þorbergsson was born in Helgastöðir in Reykjadalur and was from a well-known farming family in Þingeyri. He was one of the most prolific writers in the farming community in his time and has written numerous articles in newspapers and magazines. He published numerous books on farming and farming issues. In 1917, he undertook the monumental task of purchasing the Bessastaðir manor in Álftanes and lived there until 1928. But despite his popularity and success in South Iceland, Jón never took root there and his mind was always on a large farm in North Iceland. In 1928, he purchased the Laxamýri manor and has lived there ever since.
In this essay, Jón tells of his trip to Scotland and what he experienced there. He is very surprised by the size of the herd.
