From Syria to Iceland. The Legacy of the Apostle Thomas. The Gospel of Thomas, The Book of Thomas, The Story of the Apostle Thomas. Authors Jón Magnús Ásgeirsson and Þórður Ingi Guðjónsson.
The Gospel of Thomas, the Acts of the Apostles, and the Acts of the Apostles are works dedicated to the Apostle Thomas. The gap they form in the flora of early Christian writings is unique. Here we gain insight into some of the earliest preserved sayings of Jesus of Nazareth, where the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is nowhere mentioned. It is not the Savior's martyrdom that is the key to the kingdom of God, but knowledge. The main obstacle on man's path to true knowledge turns out to be the passions of the flesh, not moral issues on the scale of sin and redemption. The path to this divine knowledge is not a gift but a tireless struggle with the forces of this world, where malice and moderation become symbols of God's new generation. In Thomas Christianity, one can see one of the earliest interpretations of the person of Jesus of Nazareth and his words. That interpretation was not on the table of church authorities in the fourth century or for long afterwards. But these works have a message for the present, where the narrow-mindedness of the past is giving way to new perspectives (Book Magazine 2007).
