Frost Roses. Poem by Guðjón Benediktsson from Einholt.
Frostroses is Guðjón frá Einholt's only book.
Guðjón Benediktsson was born in Viðborð in Mýrarhreppur in 1896. His parents were Benedikt Kristjánsson, a farmer there and later in Einholt in the same village as his wife Aðalheiður Sigurðardóttir. Guðjón went to study at the Secondary School in Akureyri and graduated from there in 1918. He studied at the 4th grade of the Reykjavík High School from 1919-1920. He was a teacher in his home village from 1918-1919 and at the Workers' Evening School in Reykjavík from 1925-1927. However, his main occupation was bricklaying and construction work, and he worked at those jobs until he had to put the bricklaying on the shelf due to poor health. After Guðjón left the bricklaying business, he joined the State Housing Administration and worked there in supervisory and clerical positions until he was in his eighties.
Guðjón was fascinated by the ideals of equality and socialism at a young age. He worked at Dagsbrún in the 1930s and made a significant contribution to that field. Guðjón also held positions of trust for the Reykjavík Masons' Association and was a board member from 1925 to 1953. Guðjón was one of those who received the most severe sentences after the clashes on November 9, 1932.
