Rögnvaldur Ágúst Ólafsson has been called
the first Icelandic architect. Although his career spanned
his would only have about 12 years left to live
numerous buildings across the country, many including
the most beautiful thing that exists in Icelandic architecture.
These include Húsavík Church,
Breiðabólstaðar Church in Fljótshlíð,
Hafnarfjörður Church, the Reykjavík Post Office and
many residential buildings by the lake. Vífilsstaðahælið
was his greatest work and it was there that he himself died
from tuberculosis in 1917, at only 42 years old
age. This book was compiled 140 years ago
had passed since his birth.
