Guðrún Margrét was born in Hafnarfjörður in 1946 and has lived in Egilsstaðir since 1970. She has been writing poetry since a young age and won a prize in the University of Iceland poetry competition in 1991. The prize was for the poem Skip sam mætst í myrkri , which was later published in the book This Love, This Love .
