Páll Janus Þórðarson was born in Súgandafjörður in February 1925. He began his career in the sea, first as a ship's mate, then as a mate and finally as a captain. After finishing his seafaring career, he continued to work in fishing and fish processing.
Páll was more or less involved in social affairs of various kinds throughout his life. From his youth he was fond of composing verses and poems, for his own amusement and for the enjoyment of his friends and fellow travelers. He often performed and sang humorous songs at festivals and gatherings, and was unabashed in his eloquence. Geislabrot was Páll's first and only book. He died in April 2010.
