But here is a photocopy of Jón Ólafsson's Göngu-Hrólf. Bound in a good binding. A remarkable and good initiative.
It was in Göngu-Hrólf that Jón wrote the infamous article about Governor Hilmar Finsen. But in the article he was thought to be referring to the newly appointed Governor Hilmar Finsen, who was the highest official in Iceland. On the day Hilmar formally took office, a dead raven had been hung on the flagpole of the Governor's House, along with a black flag that read: "Down with the Governor".
Jón Ólafsson wrote an article in his newspaper and called Hilmar, among other things, "an unpopular and ill-favored man."
Extensive legal proceedings then began, which ended with Jón receiving a one-year prison sentence and a large fine for defamation. Jón managed to flee the country before the sentence was carried out and stayed in America for a while.
