Green were you a valley. A novel by Richard Llewellyn. Ólafur Jóhann Sigurðsson Icelandic.
The novel Green Valley was first published in England around 1940. The book's popularity was such that in 10 years it was reprinted 30 times, and now the 46th edition is seeing the light of day in the author's home country. There are countless editions in other English-speaking countries and translations into a number of foreign languages, but it is safe to say that the story has been a success everywhere. Green Valley is about a mining family in Wales shortly before the turn of the last century.
