Halldór Laxness. By Peter Hallberg. Translated into Icelandic by Njörður P. Njarðvík.

Pétur Hallberg's writings about Halldór Laxness played a significant role in drawing the attention of literary scholars in Sweden and elsewhere around the world to Halldór's works, which subsequently steadily increased the poet's popularity and respect among readers.

Pétur Hallberg, on the other hand, thought it was an exaggeration when it was said that he had played a major role in Halldór being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1955. Ólafur Ragnarsson, Halldór's publisher for many years, says in a memoir about Peter Hallberg: "I remember that this came up when we were chatting about Halldór's work as often as we could when this modest scholar was visiting here a few years ago. At that time, Pétur claimed that Halldór had undoubtedly received the Nobel Prize for his work, even though there had been no connection between them and Pétur had not promoted his books in Sweden. "Halldór, on the other hand, has given me a lot," he said, "and as an author has become the basis for much of my life's work."
