Hello Eldborg - Are you listening, Óli?" has been published by the book publisher Hafglit. The author of the book is Matthías Ólafsson, (Hassi), a visual artist and life artist, as he is introduced on the book cover. The story is about the herring ship Eldborg from Borgarnes under the command of the Westfjords native Ólafur Magnússon. "Throughout the war years, with the exception of summer herring fishing and annual transports for the army in spring and autumn, Ólafur and his crew sailed the Eldborg across rough seas in winter with ice-covered boats fishing to England. "Ólafur was a man of great character, an excellent sailor, skilled in catching fish and equally daring," says, among other things, on the book cover. It further states: "150 previously unpublished pictures related to fishing, a collection of works from different periods adorn the book, and they alone are a valuable source of information about the Icelandic herring fishery in the North from 1934 to 1947. The appendix contains particularly interesting observations by Ólafur the Heit, the many-time herring king, regarding the fishing off the North during the aforementioned period, an almost scientific report on sea temperature, prey volume, winds, currents and more, related to fishing for the capricious silver of the sea.
