Heiðvindar. Poem by Jakob Thorarensen.
In Eimreiðinn, 39th year, issue 4, 1933, there is a discussion about Heiðvindur Jakob Thorarensen. It says, among other things,
The historical poem, Eyjólfur Bölverksson and the Prisoner of St. Helena,
are good poems, each in its own way, but Hildigunnur is by far the most magnificent of them, and it now joins the group of Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir, Ásdís á Bjargi, Snorri the God and other such excellent poems by the poet.
It was not advisable to seek advice from Hildigunn, primarily because of her pride and arrogance, and also because of how she was placed in the village.
A group of racks, gets into trouble,
a dirt road through the stream and sand
Then the eastern proposal broke out.
To be called a godless scoundrel
mind and mouth, so she prayed.
But the leadership of the forces was not weak,
and finally had to change
the country's constitution.
She was the most beautiful maiden in the land,
a lot was considered useful
her tenderness and favor to attain.
But the poem rises highest in anticipation of the revenge after the murder of Höskuld:
The chariot of events
was driven by hidden quantities
You paved the way for blood and fire.
