Horses and Riders in Iceland by George HF Schrader. Jónas Jónasson has Icelandic.
Schrader was very concerned about the welfare of horses. He wanted to teach Icelanders better and more horsemanship. However, teaching them that knowledge was not without setbacks. Schrader said about this: "They don't do it, they pretend to know everything much better. ... Everything that is proposed to be done "is not enough in Iceland, we have to have it the way we do it." Thus we could imagine that Iceland belonged to a completely different world, and that Icelanders were God's chosen people - or an outcast nation, depending on whether we go by their lamentations about themselves and everything Icelandic, or by their laments about poverty and the soil."
