Living is heavenly IV. The autobiography of Sigurbjörn Þorkelsson in Vís.

Sigurbjörn was born in Kiðafell in Kjós in 1885. His parents were Þorkell Halldórsson and Kristín Gísladóttir in Kiðafell. Sigurbjörn came from a modest background but was always orderly and hardworking. He learned English, French, German, Danish and Norwegian, mostly by himself. Sigurbjörn worked at the Edinborg department store 1901-1914, was store manager at the French department store Morry & Cie 1914-1919. founded the Vísi department store in 1915 and operated it until 1943. He worked at the Reykjavík Tax Office and was director of Reykjavík Cemeteries 1951-1965.
Sigurbjörn was a great independence activist in the spirit of the old independence activists, very religious and devout and a great philanthropist. He was one of the founders of the YMCA in 1899. The National Guard in 1903. The national association of Varður and Heimdall, the ÍR and Vals sports clubs, sat on the board of the YMCA from 1911, on the parish committee of the Cathedral and was a member of the tax equalization committee.
