In Hítardalur and Kristnes. Biography of Pétur Finnbogason. Recorded by Gunnar Finnbogason.
Pétur Finnbogason was born in Hítardalur in Mýrarsýsla County and grew up there. He loved the old places of his childhood and admired the old fame of the place. He wished to rest there. He attended Hvítárbakkaskólann, Menntaskólann á Akureyri, Kennaraskólann and graduated from there in 1936.
At the age of twenty-seven, he became the principal of the Children's School in Glerárþorp near Akureyri.
Pétur was a teacher in the West Iceland and later a teacher in Dalvík. In both of these places he writes diaries, and the last one he writes as a sick man in Kristneshæli. The diaries are all at once vigorous, truthful and poetic. Some say that it is debatable whether to publish such a frank love story of a dead man. But soon time spreads its tent over everything and nothing remains. (Cover text).
