Looking across the horizon. Poem by Ingibjörg Benediktsdóttir.
Ingibjörg Benediktsdóttir was born on August 11, 1885, in Bergsstaðir in Hallárdalur, Austur-Húnavatnssýsla, and lived there until she was twenty. She graduated from the Akureyri grammar school in 1909 and taught at the women's school in Blönduós and later the primary school in Reykjavík. In 1917, she married Steinþór Guðmundsson. They had four children. They lived in Akureyri until 1933, when they moved to Reykjavík. Ingibjörg died there after a long illness on October 9, 1953.

Ingibjörg took an active part in social affairs, including the Good Templars. She was a member of the Icelandic Women's Rights Association and for a time on its board. She gave talks at meetings and on the radio and wrote short stories, poems and essays that appeared in newspapers and magazines. For two years she was the editor of the magazine Nýir kvöddvakur, which was published in Akureyri. She published two books of poetry, Frá afdal – til Aðalstrætis and Horft yfér sjónarsvídið .
