Horntrendingabók. By Þórleif Bjarnason.
Þórleifur Bjarnason (January 30, 1908 – September 22, 1981) was a writer, teacher, and education director in the Westfjords and West Iceland. He lived for a long time in Ísafjörður and later in Akranes for sixteen years, but was born and raised in Hornströndur under Hælavíkur. He attended a mobile school in the countryside for six weeks in 1921-1922, but at the age of seventeen he went to Reykjavík to study at Ásgrímur Magnússon's folk school. From there he took the exam to the Teachers' College. He graduated as a teacher in 1929. In Ísafjörður, a friendship was established between him and Guðmundur G. Hagalín, who met for a writing workshop in 1942, and Guðmundur got him to tell him stories from Hornströndur and encouraged him to write them down. Þórleifur followed Guðmundur's advice and his book Hornstrendingabók was published a year later. Þórleifur wrote a number of books, many of which deal with human life in Hornstrandir.
