Hraun í Öxnadalur is one of the most famous farms in the country. This is not least because of how beautiful it is to look at, with Drangafjall and Hraundrangi towering in the background. Hraun í Öxnadalur is also famous because in 1807 the national poet Jónas Hallgrímsson was born there.
This book mostly deals with the environment and nature of Öxnadalur, and mainly the nature of the land of Hraun, both geology and organisms. It also discusses the background to the establishment of a national park in Hraun. The main text of the book, however, deals with 18 hiking trails in the area.
