Hret and sólstafir. Poems and free verse by Sigríður Jónsdóttir from Stöp.
Hret and sólstafir is the only book by Sigríður frá Stöp.
Sigríður was originally from Stöpar in Tungusveit. She moved to Reykjavík in the 1950s, first living in Kamp Knox but then building a house for herself that she named Stapar.
Sigríður was a great animal lover. Here in the south she kept a long-haired house cat, one or more at a time. They were her companions, whom she favored according to their needs. In the north she had good horses and must have ridden them skillfully, whether saddle or saddled. She probably rode more than once between the provinces and the country's quarters. Here is one of her poems, sung on the way home to the eight pastures:

I jump off my back, tighten my grip,

the mind does not rest.

Should I see Skagafjörður?

with the light of this day?
