The 2007 FÍ Annual covers the Eastern Húnavatn County from Langjökull, Kili and Hofsjökull in the south to Vesturhóp and Skagatá in the north. The book not only describes the natural features and local conditions, but is also rich in stories and legends about the area.
Travelers tend to rush through the county and often have little time to look around. If you slow down and take a detour off the main road, you will quickly discover that there is much to see and much natural beauty. Most people know Vatnsdalshólar, but there are also interesting and little-known natural wonders to be found elsewhere, as described in the book. For example, there is the Cat's Eye in Vatnsdalur and the series of waterfalls in the gorge of the Vatnsdalsá River.
The reader is led through lush and historic valleys between high mountains, out to the far shores of the peninsula, towards the open ice sea and finally to the heaths and wastelands. Ways of life, ancient and modern, are considered and significant events, people, creatures and spirits in the region are told. Here Grettir wrestled with Glám and Hallfreður the troublemaker wrote his first poems, ornate clergymen, colorful magistrates, brave housewives and successful farmers left their mark on the past.
The author Jón Torfason from Torfalækur is very knowledgeable about the history of the region and has drawn on sources from various sources. The book is richly illustrated. Sveinbjörg Sveinsdóttir and Jón Viðar Sigurðsson took pictures especially for the book, but prisoners were sought elsewhere, and there are several notable old pictures in the book. The book's cover and photo editing were handled by Daníel Bergmann. The book is also adorned with beautiful maps made by Guðmundur Ó. Ingvarsson. The editing was in the hands of Jón Viðar Sigurðsson.
