A Hunvet smile in the eyes. Poem by Rögnvald Rögnvaldsson.
Rögnvaldur was born at Litla-Þverá in Miðfjörður in Vestur-Húnavatnssýsla on October 21, 1912, and died in Akureyri in November 1987. The book was published on the occasion of Rögnvaldur's 90th birthday. Rögnvaldur lived in Akureyri for most of his life, from 1949. He was involved in retail work, including running the children's clothing store Hlín and the Tobacco Shop with his wife, but he also worked as an inspector of the town toilets that were housed under the church steps, in addition to selling sweets and tobacco there. "There, under the church steps, a remarkable atmosphere was created. It was very hospitable. Rögnvaldur was a fun man and many people stopped by his place regularly to chat with him and hear the latest poems. There, one encountered nationally known poets and poets, members of the Althing and CEOs, journalists and writers, sailors, workers and farmers came there, and no distinction was made between classes. Where Rögnvaldur ruled, perfect equality reigned," says the foreword by Ragnar Ingi Aðalsteinsson from Vaðbrekka. "The shop under the church steps was a haven that many saw as a kind of second home." Rögnvaldur later became a janitor at the Akureyri Town Hall and held that job until he retired.
Húnvetnskt bros is the only book published with poetry by Rögnavaldur Rögnvaldsson.
