1. Icelandic River Saga. By Nelson S. Gerrard.
Icelandic River Saga is an 847 page history of the Icelandic River and Ísafold Settlements on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg. This unique area bordering on boreal forest was settled by Icelandic immigrants in 1876, but also became home to Hungarians, Swedish Minnesotans, Anglo-Americans, 'Galicians', 'Soldier Settlers', Depression era 'Back to the Land' families, and Mennonite settlers.
Icelandic River Saga accounts for all lands and settlers in Townships 23 & 24, Range 4 East, an area straddling the Icelandic River near its confluence with Lake Winnipeg. Unusual for the extensive ancestral background included on the settlers, this history also features detailed biographies, early photographs of the pioneers and their families, previously unrecorded lore captured in interviews with the last of the 'old timers', original maps, translated letters, and numerous first-hand accounts.
