Mårten Strömer, born June 7, 1707 in Örebro, died January 2, 1770, was a Swedish mathematician and astronomer.
Strömer became a student at Uppsala University in 1724 and a professor of astronomy there in 1744. In 1756 he was asked by the state to establish the Admiralty Cadet School in Karlskrona. He found that this situation could not be combined with the professors, and he left in 1765.
He became a member of the Vetenskapsakademien in 1739, the same year it was founded.
Strömer is a prominent player among Swedish mathematicians. His adaptation of Euclid's Elementa (1744) was soon published in new editions. Among other works, Marks Inledning till trigonometry plana (1749) and Läran om klotet och sphæeriska trigonomiten (1759) as well as astronomical and meteorological observations. Strömer also occupied himself with establishing a reliable sea map over the Swedish archipelago.
