Invasion of the Lilies. Poem by Bergsvein Birgisson.
Bergsveinn Birgisson was born in 1971 on Eiríksgata. He grew up in Kópavogur, and later lived in Garðabær and completed his matriculation examination from Fjölbrautarskóli Garðabær in 1991. He later attended the University of Iceland and completed a BA degree in Icelandic and general literature in 1997, a cand. mag degree from the University of Oslo in 1999, a master's degree in 2001 from the University of Bergen and a doctorate in Nordic studies from the same school in 2008.
The first publication was the poetry book Íslendingurinn which was published in 1992, and then the poetry book Innrás lillanna which was published under the Nykur banner in 1997. The novel Landslag er aldrei asnalegt was published in 2003 by Bjarti, since then Bergsveinn has published several novels. Bergsveinn was nominated for the Icelandic Literature Prize for the novels Landslag er aldrei asnalegt (2003), Svar við bréfi Helgu (2010) and Livandilífslækur (2018), and Svar við bréfi Helgu was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. He received the Bookstore Employees' Literature Prize for Svar við bréfi Helgu in 2010 and ten years later he was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize for Livandilífslækur.
