Icelandic runic inscriptions. By Anders Bæksted.
Halldór Hermannsson writes about the book in Morgunblaðisn's Lesbók, May 1, 1954. There Halldór says: "There is a considerable amount of information printed in magazines and scattered in books about Icelandic runic artists, and descriptions of them exist in manuscript collections, but it is all in manuscripts, and therefore difficult to find. No runic expert had studied this thoroughly until the Danish runic scholar Anders Bæksted did. He traveled around the country in the years 1937-39, and studied everything that could be found there on artifacts and loose objects, and has compiled what others have said or written about it. It is true that there are not many particularly remarkable runic artists here, but the author still finds many things strange to find there, and the book is informative and gives a good overview of the subject. The war must have prevented him from doing more about this, however. The most remarkable and The oldest, and most talked about, runic inscription is on the Valþjófsstaðarhurðinn, and it appears to date from around 1200."
