This photocopied edition of Islandske Maaneds-Tidender was produced in 200 numbered copies by Lithoprent in Reykjavík in December 1952 and is the 16th copy.
Islandske Maaneds-Tidender began its circulation in Hrappsey in Breiðafjörður in 1773. The first issue was dedicated to the month of October, 16 pages long in a small book fragment, written in Danish, as the title suggests. It was a news publication; on page 1, after the title, there is simply the heading “Nyheder” (News) and the subtitle “Fra Sönderlandet” (From the South). On page 6, news from the North and then from other parts of the country comes. Icelandic monthly newspapers were published monthly for three years and were printed in Hrappsey until the third year, and then in Copenhagen. There they ended their circulation with the September issue of 1776.
It has sometimes been claimed that Islandske Maaneds-Tidender is the first Icelandic media outlet.
