Copper


Everything was given to me.

eyes awareness and life

everything that had color and shape

and fingers for distinction

veins in wood

and the annual cycles of the sun

wound on a well-filled spindle


My life was woven from the fabric of my heart.

two seasons: winter and summer

were my only strings

passion in my heart

full of longing

and twisted into a knot like a rope

deep under my ribs


Grass sprouted all over the ground

and grow all summer long

rain gutters cut by winds

and cut at the root by autumn frosts

turned yellow in my eyes


The moon went one night

with swinging lights and flickering

house and face

my green like weathered copper

came to my mind:
