Finnur Jónsson is one of the nation's foremost folklorists. He was born in 1842 and died in 1924. His parents were Reverend Jón Torfason from Fellir in Mýrdal and his wife Oddný Ingvarsdóttir from Skarður in Landi.
Finnur settled in Kjörseyri, was a district governor and held various positions of trust within the district. He was a singer, a good doctor and a great scholar and bookworm. His wife was Jóhanna Matthíasdóttir of Kjörseyri. Finnur left behind various academic articles and publications, including the book Þjóðhættir og évisögur which is a remarkable source of information about the way of life in earlier centuries. Then Finnur drew various of his contemporaries and it is invaluable to the people of Stranda.
