Jóhannes Friðlaugsson was born at Hafralækur in Aðaldalur on September 29, 1882. Jóhannes was the son of Friðlaug Jónsson and Sigurlaug Jósefsdóttir, who lived there. Jóhannes had poor health from childhood, and worldly things were very scarce during his growing up years. However, he was considered a great clairvoyant and managed to get into Möðruvallarskóli and completed his teacher's degree from Flensborg in 1904. Jóhannes taught in many places, most recently in Aðaldalur. He stopped teaching in 1949. He made a good name for himself as a writer, and for half a century his poems, short stories and narratives were published in newspapers, magazines and books. (www.bragi.arnastofnun.is)
