Jón í Brauðhúsir. Short story by Halldór Kiljan Laxness. Illustrations by Snorri Sveinn Friðriksson.
Andris: How is it that this should happen to us? Hasn't the world lasted more than a thousand years and won't it last much longer? Yet no one has ever lived anything remarkable except for these insignificant people. ... Now I want to ask you something that I have so often tried to remember, Philip: What color were his eyes? Weren't they probably blue?
Filpus: Now get over it Andris, how could you think of saying that his eyes were blue! ... Don't you remember anymore how warm and deep his eyes were? and brown?
Andris: But his hair was black.
Philip: Black? ... The one with that big red hair!
The story first appeared in Sjöstafakverin in 1964.
