Hörður Football Club 25 years old. 1919 - 1944.
"It was in the spring of 1919 that 12 young men gathered at Sundstræti 41 in Ísafjörður to discuss the establishment of a football club. They had previously attended training at the Ísafjörður Football Club, but a need was felt for another club in the town. The new club was named Knattspyrnufélagið Hörður and the first board consisted of Þórhall Leóssson as chairman, Dagbjarti Sigurðsson as treasurer, and Helgi Guðmundsson as secretary.
For a long time, Hörður only had one adult team, but in 1931, the 2nd and 3rd teams were established, and that group of boys became very successful as time went on. Until 1933, soccer was the only sport practiced within the club, but then a special girls' handball team was founded. In the spring of 1937, Hörður led a course in athletics, and as a result, the club acquired numerous talented athletes who held Icelandic records in their disciplines and competed for Iceland on the international stage. Around and after 1940, gymnastics and wrestling began to be practiced within the club, and around the same time, there was talk of establishing a ski team. A ski hut was built in cooperation with the Ísafjarður Ski Club, and all the facilities for practicing skiing were completely changed for the better. "Harðvarjar produced many accomplished skiers, both men and women, who became multiple Icelandic champions and competed in international competitions, including the Olympics."
