Miracles of a Generation. By Einar Olgeirsson. Recorded by Jón Guðnason.
Einar Olgeirsson's first memoir, In the Shadow of the Imperialist Movement, was published in 1980. Jón Guðnason recorded and he also records the story that Einar tells in this book. Here Einar Olgeirsson tells of the many people he has met on his journey, of the founding of trade unions throughout the country, primarily in the North where he lived when the country's workers were awakening to the need for organized organizations, of the founding and activities of the Communist Party, the People's Party, the Socialist Party and the Icelandic People's Union, and his story ends in 1942 when the Arbitration Act was overturned. These are times of great upheaval in national and industrial life. It is remarkable to read this story as it is seen and recorded from the perspective of a man who always stood in the front lines and perceived and understood his time in a deeper and broader sense than most others based on the ideal to which he dedicated his life.
