Kristín Dahlstedt, restaurateur. Reminiscences. Recorded by Hafliði Jónsson from Eyrum.
Mrs. Kristín Dhalstedt was a restaurateur for half a century and there are many stories about her, some of them quite legendary. She has seen and experienced a lot in her long life and can tell many stories.
At a young age, she had a failed love affair with the poet Magnús Hjaltason, whom Kiljan calls Ljósvíking. She then went to Denmark on a fishing boat and stayed there for years, most of the time working in hotels, but returned home and settled in Reykjavík in 1905 and founded her own restaurant.
Her life is full of ups and downs, until she quits her restaurant business in 1947, at the age of seventy, and takes a pleasure trip to America. Kristín is now 85 years old and still working.
It has been a great pleasure for me to record her story. (Cover text).
