Kurl. Poem by Kolbein Högnason.
Kolbeinn was the son of Katrín Kolbeinsdóttir in Kollafjörður and Högni Finnsson, a master carpenter in Reykjavík, while Högni was from Meðalfell in Kjós. Kolbeinn graduated from the Icelandic Teachers' College in 1913. He then worked as a farmer in Kollafjörður until 1943 when he sold his farm and became a clerk in Reykjavík. Kolbeinn was married twice. His first wife was Guðrún Sigríður Jóhannsdóttir from Hænuvík and they had four children together. They ended their relationship. His second wife was Málfríður Jónsdóttir from Bíldsfell in Grafning and they had two children together. Kolbeinn's collection of poems was published in 1943 in three books called: Hnoðnaglar, Kræklur and Olnbogabörn. A new collection, Kurl, was published in 1946 and Kröfs, a collection of his various other poems, was published in 1948. In addition, his short story collection, Kynlegar kindur, was published in 1946. Kolbeinn was a well-known poet and many of his free verse poems were published.
