A book of poems by Professor Jón Helgason.
Jón graduated from Reykjavík High School in 1916, only 17 years old and had only been a regular student for one winter. Jón received his M.A. in Nordic Studies from the University of Copenhagen in 1923. Jón then defended his doctoral thesis on Jón Ólafsson from Grunnavík on January 7, 1926. The same year, the thesis was published in book form in Copenhagen. Jón taught at the University of Oslo in the winter of 1926-27 and was appointed director of the Árni Magnússon manuscript collection in 1927 in Copenhagen, where he has lived ever since. Two years later, Jón took over Finn Jónsson's position and was appointed professor of Icelandic language and literature at Hafnarfjörður University. By then, three positions had actually been combined into one: Finn's professorship, Valtýr Guðmundsson's professorship in Icelandic language and literature, and the position of director of the Árnasafn. Jón held this position for 40 years.
