Guðmundur Magnússon (February 12, 1873 – November 18, 1918), best known by his pen name Jón Trausti, was an Icelandic writer. His best-known novels are Heiðarbýlið, Anna frá Stóruborg, and Halla, but he also wrote numerous short stories and shorter novels.
Jón Trausti was born in Rif on Melrakkaslétta and grew up in poverty. His parents were farmhands when he was born, Magnús Magnússon from Daðastaðir in Núpasveit and Guðbjörg Guðmundsdóttir from Sigurðarstaðir in Slétta. They moved in the spring of 1873 to the heath farm Hrauntangi in Öxarfjarðarheiði. His father died in 1877 and Jón Trausti was settled on the farm Skinnalón where he stayed for five years. His mother remarried and started farming on the land of Núpskötla near Rauðanúp. Jón Trausti went there at the age of 10 and stayed there until his confirmation. After that, he first worked as a laborer but then began an apprenticeship as a printer with Skafti Jósefsson, editor of the newspaper Austra in Seyðisfjörður. In the summer of 1895 he went to Reykjavík and worked at the Ísafoldarprentsmiðja. In the summer of 1896 he went on a trip around the North with Daniel Bruun. Jón Trausti then went to Copenhagen in the autumn of 1896 and spent two years there studying printing. In the summer of 1898 he married Guðrún Sigurðardóttir and moved to Akureyri, but they then moved to Reykjavík in 1899. They had an adopted daughter, Märta Magnúsdóttir.
In 1899, his first collection of poems, At Home and Abroad, was published, with poems most of which were written during his years in Copenhagen. The book did not receive good reviews. In 1903, his second book of poems, Íslandsvísur, was published, which is adorned with illustrations by himself and the painter Þórarinn B. Þorláksson. That book contains the poems Íslandsvísur, which begins with the line Ég vil elska mitt land, and Draumalandið, which have become popular songs. Reverend Bjarni Þorsteinsson composed a song to Íslandsvísur in 1903.
