Oddný Guðmundsdóttir, 1908 – 1985, was a teacher and writer. She was from Hól in Langanes.
In 1939, Oddný returned home after studying in Sweden. But in her younger years she had spent time studying and working in the Nordic countries and Switzerland. Oddný Guðmundsdóttir was well-spoken and an excellent writer.
Oddný was a teacher for thirty years. She taught in Vestfjörður for thirteen winters, four years in Snæfellsnes, two in Borgarfjörður and one year in Dalasýsla. She then taught for shorter periods than the school year in Húnavatnssýsla, Eyjafjörður, Tjörnes, Breiðdalsvík and other places. She also wrote several books, including: Svo skal böl bátt in 1943, Veltiár in 1947, Tveir júnidagar in 1949 and also wrote short stories for newspapers and magazines and worked on translations.
In 1978, Erlingur Davíðsson interviewed her for the book series Aldnir hafa võrð. Oddný was seventy at the time. When Erlingur sat down at the kitchen table in her home to begin the interview, he noticed that there was no coffee pot on the table. She then said that she had never had a coffee pot but still thought coffee was good. She had also never had a man and did not miss it at all.
