After graduating from Akureyri High School in 1942, he studied English literature at the University of Berkeley in California, graduating with a BA in 1945. He went to New York for graduate studies at Columbia University, graduating with an MA in comparative literature in 1947. Kristján has written poetry, short stories, and articles, as well as translations. He has also edited a number of books. He was responsible for various publications before publishing his poetry collection Kvæði in 1976. He received the Davidspennann in 1991 for his poetry collection Kvæði 90 and the Icelandic National Broadcasting Corporation Writers' Fund award a year later.
Daily life sixty years ago I
twice
the sister was brought to justice
received a light sentence, in early June
musicals
in Iðnó emptied consciousness
public again and again
the brother
died rich after a long spring sooner or later
in a telegram from Argentina
from here
looks like the spring when a woman killed her brother
on Grettisgata like this:
emotional life
of the people spreads, devastating
the settlement thickens in the sunshine
