Halla Lovísa Loftsdóttir was born on June 12, 1886, at Stóra-Kollabæ in Fljótshlíð and grew up there until the age of confirmation. In 1911, she married Ámunda Guðmundsson, a farmer at Sandlækur in Gnúpverjahrepp, where they lived for the next few years. She lost her husband in 1918, but continued to live at Sandlækur until 1931. She then moved to Reykjavík and has lived there ever since.
Halla began writing poetry at a young age and has had her poems published in magazines. She was a great lover of nature and possessed a strong desire for beauty, which is best demonstrated in her poems and short stories. In some of them, one can also hear the echoes of folk poetry - the good heritage from the twilight hours in her parents' homes.
Halla did not live to see her poems published in a book. She died on November 15th (1975), having just seen them in their first proof. (Cover text.)
