Poems and short stories by Eirík Einarsson, Réttarholt Reykjavík.
The only book by Eiríkur Einarsson from Réttarholt.
Eiríkur Einarsson was born at Suður-Hvammur in Mýrdal in 1891. His parents were the couple Ingveldur Eiríksdóttir and Einar Þorsteinsson. Eiríkur's father drowned at Landeyjarsandur in 1893. Eiríkur did not receive any education beyond high school but was gifted. He was a sharp accountant and a fluent Icelandic speaker. Eiríkur was thrifty and hardworking when he enjoyed himself for the sake of his health. He learned shoemaking from Sveinn Þorláksson in Vík but never pursued shoemaking as his main occupation. He was a good sailor, a fisherman and in demand in ship's berths. He was strict and demanding of himself and others, he insisted on keeping his promises, he was a man of his word and his promises were as good as a letter in a book. He was for a time the manager of a power station in Bíldudalur and there he met his wife, Sigríður Benedikta Kristjánsdóttir. The couple farmed for a while on Vatnsleysuströnd, and most recently in Réttarholt in Reykjavík, where they lived for about 40 years. He and Sigríður had 15 daughters and almost as many descendants descended from them. Eiríkur died in Reykjavík in 1973.
The beautiful bonfire of love
has just been lit
emotional speech
opportunity presents.
