Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir from Melgerði in Fellshreppur in Ströndur grew up in great poverty, but her parents were both homemakers. Later she moved to Hvammstangi where she got married. She was paralyzed for thirty years and bedridden. Tumors in her head meant that she had to undergo major surgery, which was performed in Copenhagen. And it was following the operation that Guðrún's legs became paralyzed.
Guðrún is the author of a number of poetry books and she also published poetry in newspapers and magazines.
Guðrún was a well-known religious woman, and her faith is evident in everything she writes, and it is clear that her faith has helped her cope with life's setbacks and sorrows.
