Medical book for the general public in Iceland by J. Jónassen, Dr.Med.
Here is a worn and used copy of Jonas's Medical Book. A valuable book that needs to be put in good condition.
J. Jónassen's medical book is full of interesting information, for example, it says about teeth and tooth decay; "The teeth and gums often become weak, especially the teeth, and it is more common than it needs to be said, how common it has become in this country for people to complain about damaged ("burned") teeth and about toothlessness." He realizes that teeth are damaged more in adolescents than adults, but says that people believe that tooth decay is hereditary but that there are also many "external causes". He wants to dispel the belief in the former tooth worm and says: "It is a wrong opinion for people to think that there is a living worm in a damaged tooth or to talk about a worm-eaten tooth."
About nosebleeds; "There are many home remedies for nosebleeds, and they are often effective; one example is placing a cold cloth between a man's legs."
