Ólafía. Biography of Ólafía Jóhannsdóttir. Written by Sigríður Dúna Kristmundsdóttir.
Ólafía Jóhannsdóttir was born in 1863 in Mosfell in the Mosfellssveit region. She became a women's rights activist and revolutionary who traveled widely, meeting traditional ladies and downtrodden women of the street. When all avenues seemed closed, she found freedom in faith in a loving God and made a home for herself among prostitutes, the poor and the drunkards of Oslo, eventually becoming nationally known in Norway for her work.
