In the book, the author argues that the negligence, lack of research and lack of knowledge of fish farmers, along with the abuse of power and position by politicians and officials, are largely to blame for the nation losing 10-11 billion ISK in the fish farming adventure. The book states that it can be assumed that 40-50 fish farming companies have gone bankrupt and two to three dozen companies have ceased operations. The nation now has to pay for the losses caused by this.
The author of the book says in the introduction: "A combination of greed and incredible ignorance of fish farming. Billions of krónur were poured into projects and companies that were hopeless from the start. Nothing was paid attention to the serious warnings of far-sighted people, and nothing was done about basing decisions on experience and scientific knowledge. Billion-dollar projects like the Icelandic salmon were scrapped from the ground up. In the end, there was an attempt to hide the scandals, keep quiet about the black reports and suppress information.
Added to this is political corruption from politicians who sat on the boards of funds, favored their own people, and even continued to pour hundreds of millions into friends and followers, even though the companies had already gone bankrupt."
