On the way to Timbuktu. Travel poem by Jóhanna Kristjónsdóttir.
On the Way to Timbuktu is Jóhanna Kristjónsdóttir's first book of poetry, and all the poems are travel poems, as stated in the subtitle. Readers of the magazine need not be told that Jóhanna is a well-traveled person and often imitates distant lands, but this is all explained in the introductory poem that is the same name as the book. It says that the poet is on her way to Timbuktu, but plans to stop first in Cambodia, poke her nose into Lebanon, and then take the glider to Zanzibar. That's not all, as Laos, Iraq, Burma, Japan, and Mozambique are also destinations on this route.
