Lord Dufferin's travelogue, Letters from High Latitudes, about his journey to Iceland and the North Sea in 1856, is probably one of the most popular travelogues from Iceland. The book was published in over 40 editions in five languages. Hersteinn Pálsson's Icelandic translation, Lord Dufferin's Travelogue, was published in 1944. Dufferin was said to have a great fondness for everything related to Icelandic antiquity, while everything was flourishing and free here, and claimed to have a collection of all the Icelandic and Norwegian royal sagas, and of various other writings from later times relating to Iceland.
