Living Consciousness. Sermons, addresses and articles by Sigurgeir Sigurðsson, Pétur Sigurgeirsson and Pétur Pétursson. Kristján Valur Ingólfsson writes an introduction.
Published in memory of Pétur Sigurgeirsson.
Here, three generations of clergy from the same family meet and share their Christian message, faith, and views on life. In a unique way, this book testifies to the upheavals of time and the different spirit of the times, for over a century has passed since Sigurgeir Sigurðsson, a priest in Ísafjörður and later the bishop of Iceland, began preaching, and his grandson, Pétur Pétursson, still works on matters of faith and church at the University of Iceland.
Pétur Sigurgeirsson, a priest in Akureyri and later Bishop of Iceland, is at the center of this book and it is dedicated to his memory. To commemorate his centenary, June 2, 2019, a selection of sermons, columns and newspaper articles from him is published here that shed clear light on his position on society and religion. At the same time, the book allows us to read and conclude one thing or another about the conversation between the three generations that have taken place here, as there are many similarities in duties.
This book not only bears witness to Christian preaching, it is also a testament to the history of Iceland, the culture and customs of the nation, seen from the perspective of theology, religious life and conscience in every era.
