Life is salt fish. Memoirs of Elías Pálsson, chief fish inspector. Translated by Ragnar Þorsteinsson.
Elías Pálsson was born in Vestur-Landeyjar in 1891 and grew up with foster parents. In 1903 he moved with them to Garðskagavit and around the same time his seafaring career began. Most of his life's work was related to fishing and fishing and at the beginning of 1947 he was assigned to the position of chief fishmonger for salted fish, which he held until he reached the age limit for civil servants. Elías was naturally shaped by the living conditions that were most common in his childhood, had to do hard work and did not have the opportunity to devote his childhood to education. His travels led, among other places, to South America and Spain and he met various notable people whom he describes with the frankness that is characteristic of him.
Ragnar Þorsteinsson wrote down Elías's memoirs and had just finished it when the elderly entrepreneur said goodbye to this world. (Cover text).
