Life in Kristnesþorp. From childhood to heyday and existential crisis. By Brynjar Karl Óttarsson.
The book Life in Kristnes Village – from Growing Up to Blooming and Existential Crisis was published before Christmas 2016. The author is Brynjar Karl Óttarsson. The Grenndargralið here compiles stories of the experiences of people who lived/live in the staff housing in Kristnes and on the farms in the immediate vicinity of Kristneshæli.
The book traces 90 years of residential development, the history of real estate and the environment, mixed with the daily lives of the villagers. The book is based on interviews with 8 individuals who have lived in Kristnestorf at different times, from the inauguration of Kristneshæli in 1927 to the present day.
The book contains a few things that provide insight into life in Kristnes village. In this regard, we can mention fragments of memories or a kind of micro-stories where the residents of Kristnes share with the reader a single memory or story of a funny incident or memorable person. The book also contains material from newspapers, magazines and books as well as previously unpublished material from the possessions of former residents, not to mention a large number of photographs.
An attempt is made to compile various kinds of narratives, in words and pictures, and blend them together so that the result will be an accessible reference book on the subject – a book about people's experiences of life in Kristnes village for the residents of Kristnes in the past, present and future, as well as other interested parties.
The countless adventures lie hidden in the minds of those who have lived in Kristnes. Here is an opportunity to glimpse into a community that has few parallels. Herdís Björk Þórðardóttir was responsible for the book's cover.
