An Age of Poetry. 100 Poems on the Centennial. Poems by Guðmundur Böðvarssson. Curated by Silja Aðalsteinsdóttir.
On September 1st, a hundred years passed since the birth of the poet Guðmundur Böðvarsson at Kirkjuból in Hvítársíð. To mark the occasion, the book Ljóðöld was published with one hundred selected poems by the poet and an article about his life and art by Silja Aðalsteinsdóttir, his biographer. Guðmundur Böðvarsson was - in the words of Kristin E. Andrésson - "one of the adventures in Icelandic literature, a virtually unschooled country boy who established himself among the foremost Icelandic poets of the 20th century. With his rare, sincere poems, whether they touched a sore chord, sweet or warlike, Guðmundur gained a permanent place in the minds and hearts of his people. This book is welcome to all lovers of Icelandic poetry." (Bókatíðindi 2004).
